Latest in H47's Nerd World

So far I am very intrigued by the new Guardians of the Galaxy thanks to this snipet

But I'm STAYING hooked for Rocket Racoon & Groot!!!. My new fave comic bromance!
I'll be honest, I didn't know much about them, so I asked one of my coworkers for the low down. Apparently Groot drops his catchphrase because "sometimes it makes him bigger" SO of course I ask, "so does he just sit in the bathroom going 'groot groot groot grootgrootgroot' ?" We were unable to come up with a reasonable answer.
Great, now I need to put a half ent and a space marmet next to my psychopathic regenerator and my cajun gentlemen pyro thief.
Oh comics, you crazay.

I made some poor choices at the end of a 1 year hiatus D&D campaign. i.e. my characters running away when the sky opened up with demons and I did not realize the crazy sky giant lord and an older copper? bronze? Brass? were apparently hardcore enough to help seal the rift. SO I had to be like "my leyline drood is soooo attuned to the planet I realize there's still a chance and I come back" but I STILL had to leave before the final battle so I'll have to find out later what happened.
(You know it's your character when you start a sentence in the third person and slip into the first)
Otherwise, I threw two adult bronze dragons at my friday group. Managed to drop the caster but the monk and the monsterous barbarian who is "3-5 levels behind" didn't take anything close to "dangerous amounts of damage" and in inadvertent revenge, the caster kept dropping aoes on my kobold army that was put there for flavor, so I had to GM magic rez them so they could get up and begin worshiping the barbarian.
Yes, I know, Metallics are typically good aligned, and these two were, but in our setting morality lines are a lot more grey, PLUS I never said the PARTY was good aligned, did I? It has been a challenge, I assure you.

Also, I know I'm working on a musical because I wake up with the soundtrack playing in my head and it's would be annoying but it helps me remember the choreography so I can judge what needs tweaking.
I'm starting to wonder if working on anything creative inspires you because I wouldn't say it's particularly inspiring, yet, we're working on it, it should be awesome and fun. But I am getting the jones to work on different things and I find it in odd proximity to my newest project.

AND, yes, I am playing Majora's Mask. Because I have a problem. No, I am not playing Bioshock, even though we own it, no I'm not watching Serenity Finally because I watched all of Firefly but for some reason never got around to watching the movie, no I am not transcribing my musical to the word doc like it needs to be, because I have a 64 bit fantasy J-origin PROBLEM!
See yall after 3 days *Wink*

Again. Again? Again!?

Since my WoW account is temp disabled, I found myself playing Ocarina of time . . . again. I know. It's just so good though! But you knew that. Now I'm debating going on to Majora's Mask . . . you know, just cause. Well, also because I really should get on that whole "working with my buddy Moose to come up with racial stats and other Pathfinder friendly mechanics so we can run a Hyrule setting Pen & Paper RPG game" and this would be great research.

And in other news that should not surprise anyone: I am hosting Panels at Fanime this year!!

Saturday, 8pm-10pm in Panels 4, "? in the H47!?: Nerdcore 101"
Where we will be listening to a little sampler and education presented and selected by yours truly as well as there is a VERY good chance for a special guest . . .

So, expect a Rai-healthy listening set. Spoilers.

And then! Once more, This Blog, in association with the Twilight Knights Renaissance Guild, presents:

Is It Real!?
Friday, 4pm-5pm in Panels 1
A blades basic panel on how to differentiate display from functional, cheap from high quality, and a little extra about steel info on top of all that.

So keep informed here, on twitter, or even on FB if you got me on there, I should have a MemeOrable done by the end of the week. But don't expect too much, as I mentioned earlier last week, EVA 3 hits on the 24th, and I'm not sure I can wait till Fanime to watch it. Just saying.

Oh yeah! Steam Powered Giraffe is also playing at Clockwork Alchemy that same weekend, I'll be hitting that up, you best believe. What!? You don't know SPG!? EDUCATE THYSELF!
Later H47ites!

MemeOrable: Deadpool Veme

So, Deadpool is awesome.

If you don't feel this is true, I'm not sure we can ever be friends if you don't understand how Deadpool can NOT not be awesome. Failing this, Chimichangas.

Also, Con's are usually a lot of fun, if you do them right at all. SO, let us mix the two, thank you D. Piddy

DP V Fanime 2012, cause I was there . . .

DP V Comic signing cause I listen to the two guys who write that Deadpool title play D&D all the time.

DP V WonderCon Anahiem 2013 Cause UP TO DATE THAT'S WHY!

And in the words of my fave hero often mistaken for Spiderman . . .
"Bang Bang! BANG! BANG! Bangbangbang bang!"

Mad Animation Game

Hey guys are you ready to hear things you probably already knew were true?
Okay: The New Eva is AWESOME but my overdeveloped sense of nostalgia won’t let me say it’s better than the original series and movie, Archer is probably the best animated TV series out of the U.S. intended for a “mature” audience, and Big O is one of the best slash-fics to ever be produced.

For real though, when I started watching Neon Genisis: Evangelion 1.11 at Fanime a couple years back I was like “oh cool, a remake in ‘movie’ format with some touch ups, that’s cool.” I had NO IDEA!! Like an idiot I walked out and didn’t realize until a year later that it was a reboot/retelling/reimagining. It’s so good. I like how they upped the pacing to match the movie format and just SHOW/tell you some of the things you’re supposed to figure out. Although, in retrospect I did a lot of research after watching the original so I might just be that READY for the show. And of course the fanservice is really nice, although there was a time or two when I thought to myself “if this is fan service, it’s kind of fucked up . . . yup, it’s EVA. Hawt.”
I found myself trying to guess how they would do certain things as I was trying to mentally account for promo’s I had seen and fanart I had come across. And then at a certain point in 2.22 (I’ve only watched 1 & 2, I’m waiting for 3, like most of the U.S.) I gave up entirely and just started watching and enjoying. It was excellent.

As for Archer, I would always watch when I caught a random episode here or there and found It thuroughly entertaining, as did T1nk. Then, at some point the discussion to cosplay as characters from the show came up, as I love “easy” cosplays, or at least cosplays that are similar to what I wear on a regular basis (dress shirts, ties, slacks, lab coat/dress coat). Next thing you know I got netflix playing through every episode.
So good. Ants, danger zone, yuuup, Woodhouse, Stirling’s obsession with Burt Reynolds, as well as his sweater fad. The breast cancer arc as well as the Russia Arc really put me in touch with the characters and there was one twist/gag that I was JUST on the edge of being REALLY upset about, but I really got the feeling I was investing too much in the show, and the show simply reminded me what kind of story it told.
I can see if people are put off by the art, or maybe the gags aren’t their bag, and maybe someone would be even more put off then I, but I guess that’s why I love it. It pushes all my buttons just right.

Finally, I watched the first few Episodes of Big O, up to ep. 5 I think. Man. I like it, it tickles all sorts of nostalgia buttons. It's got that jazz/blues soundtrack that reminds me of Cowboy Bebop, as well as some of the songs have an early nineties feel that take me back. The art style has that great art deco flavor that's part noir, but for me, mostly reminds me of Batman the animated series. So far it's got a gothy android chick with snark, something I have a soft spot for, snarky goth ladies, less so androids, and a recurring lady who is also entertaining. Of course giant robots, but some of them have mystery to them, it's quite engaging, if sometimes predictable, although not too blatant, there has been a good twist or two. There's also a great overall mystic? magic? metaphysical? weird? theme largely thanks to the whole "everyone has amnesia from about half a generation back, but sometimes people remember, for no reason." I dig it. For T1nk & I it is now our "we watch this together and aren't aloud to watch it without the other" (along with Strip Search, oh man, soo good) so we will see when I get to watch more.

Oh yeah, want to watch along with me, so to speak, Eva 3.33 DVD is supposed to be released the 24th of this month and Archer has up to season 3 complete on Netflix, season 4 started on my birthday of this year, so HA! And as for Big O, it's a fourteen year old anime, you're on your own on that one.

Punk -tuation & PAX East 2013 twitching

This is being written on a word doc because I don’t know what these shenanigans are with the wifi. Although I don’t think there is wifi. Apparently I complain too much.

Anyway! Sorry about the unscheduled Hiatus. Still working on my new schedule acclimation since I’m inconsistent at The Nerd Store plus adding districts to my Substituting pool.

But enough of all that “stalker fuel” lemme get into some nerdy shit shall we!? (Speaking of nerdy. You know that that symbol – “!?” has a name!?! It’s called . . . an Interobang. Isn’t that awesome? It’s called what it looks like, sort of, but maybe a bit backwards, cause it’s all like “BANG! Exclamation point! And then Interrogation – question mark?” Awesome right? I still don’t think it beats the ampersand for me though. Love me that “and” symbol. Ha! Never ending tangent time . . .

Speaking of ampersands, that reminds me of Tycho from Penny Arcade ‘cause he got a large sort of paperweight/book-end/desk ornament of a large ampersand statue. And being one of my favorite wordsmiths, or should I use wordwright, well I guess wright doesn’t work so well as a wright creates the thing whereas a smith forges things out of other things . . . hrmm. Well whatever, I was watching the PAX East Twitch feed of the first Q&A and there was a great little occurrence at 1 hour & 30 mins . . .
Yay new words, right? Alright, tangent over.)
Well, I guess that was purdy freakin Nerdy, right?
While we’re there I might as well mention how you should watch the “make a strip” panel from day 2 morning and then the concerts lateron in the same feed. Frontalot rocked it, followed by JoCo rockin a lot of myfavorite hits it was the bestest, then Paul & Storm did their thing. And THEN, I still need to watch the day 3 feed specifically for the Lady Panel (I am all over the whole “nerd girl” issue and still ravenous for more insight) followed by the day 3 Q&A with Gabe & Tycho.
As a matter of fact, lets watch it together shall we?
