Epic SAX guy!
A musical phenomenon that I can't get enough of. Apparently, like many things our hive minds hook onto, this guys awesome grooves really rocked allot of people and has maintained a consistent power.
Yes, Yes that IS a ten hour video of the ONE bit of music. Yes, some people on the internet are WEIRD and there are whole communities who have sent screen shots back and forth proving HOW LONG they were able to endure/enjoy the musical stylings. As Nerdcore Luminary YTCracker mentioned on this FANTASTIC REMIX, apparently his raiding companions on WoW would play it over vent while they engaged in end game activities.
While at Anime Expo this last year there was a wandering band of troubadors, one of which had a sexyphone, and the oh-so familiar tones wafted through the convention halls. It was glorious, and I can only imagine what type of rediculousness my own band associates might have gotten up to had we all been in school just a few years later. ah well, I'm old. heh.

Its That Magical Day
It's 10/6. If you have known me for longer than 6 months you should know something about . . THIS
Well, no, maybe not so much American McGee's Alice: Madness Returns
but that in the traditional renderings of The Mad Hatter from Lewis Carol's stories had him depicted wearing a hat with a sizer card in it marked 10/6. As a result, today is Mad Hatter Day in U.S.
I know it's late, but I did it. Make a note of it for next year, and maybe even get your Hat-on earlier in the year and celebrate the European date 10-6 (the 10nth of June)

3rd 4 t3h Nrrd: Nov. '10
Serendipitously, I once again feature a XX chromosome for our November focus!
MC Diabeats!!
This slick chick with the sick music creds has only been in the game so far for less than three years. She has managed to put out a few pieces under the guidance of many Scrub Club Vet's in that short time and I imagine it wont be long till she puts out her own solo album.
Loud and proud about many aspects of herself, she is a; healthy, white, young, college student, insulin pump-diabetic, musician, Spanish/English major, nerd.
All of these aspects have influenced her Nerdcore quality in positive ways. It appears her musical background has led to an excellent ear and of course she is "one of us" if her material is any indication, which, she just did a collab album about a gaming system that has been out of date for a few years now.
I saw her on the Scrub Club roster earlier this year and heard one of her songs on a compilation somewhere, or maybe just listened to her Myspace songs, don't remember right now, but kept my ear open. Lo and behold, I looked her up again recently and she has been moving along at a good pace in the Nerdcore community.
If her freshman material is any measure of quality, her progress should be phenominal. I await the next injection of sweet rhymes from Lady Diabeats, but until then, hopefully these live performances can hold us over.

3rd 4 t3h Nrrd: Sept. '10
This month we take a look at documented Nerdery, with Nerdcore Rising & Nerdcore For Life. Two very different movies that I believe really looks into the heart of Nerdcore Hip-Hop, the light and the dark.
I've spoken about Nerdcore Rising before and can more or less point to it as the catalyst that got me into the genre. I have had some small email interactions with the head of the project, Negin Farsad, and follow her on twitter, this lady has a lot of hot brands in a lot of fires, one rad comedian.
As for the film itself, it is a banner waving piece of media to which I can point and say, this, this is what Nerdcore can be. It chronicles MC Frontalot's U.S. tour which ends at PAX (spoilers) and follows their misadventures. It also does try to answer the question of what is Nerdcore Hip-hop, what is it's purpose, is it a parody, racist, niche? Not only does it have a great amount of polish to it it tells a cohesive story with a beginning, a middle and an end. This not only helps bring most viewers along it gives an uplifting climax to the story.
If you only watch one of these films, make it Nerdcore Rising as it will give a great explanation of the genre, tells a great tale and shows Nerdcore and NerdLife (in my humble opinion) at it's pinnacle.
Nerdcore For Life is the Documentary you MUST WATCH if you want to seriously know anything about Nerdcore Hip-Hop the scene, the roots, and the players. Dan Lamoureux does an excellent job delving into the nuts and bolts of how the scene lives and breaths and struggles in the day to day. Not only does he cover the OTHER heavy hitters of the genre the movie looks at the larger internet cultures developed around the music and how they evolved.
This documentary is much more gritty, much more honest and as I said, if you want the movie that is going to set you on the path of a greater understanding of the genre as a whole, not just The King, The Godfather, and the other antediluvians, this is the documentary that needs to be viewed.

3rd 4 t3h Nrrd: Aug. '10
This month we take a look at a constant hand in the west coast Nerdcore scene, Ultraklystron or Karl Olson. Ultra is not only a consummate contributor of his own musical styleings he has been known to contribute to other artists endeavors.
I dig this cat. He has a very quintessential "nerd" look, but he moves forward, a true Nerdcore Playa, being himself and living his art. His rhythms are clean and articulate with a sound that can become identifiable.
Although he may not be the most well versed in vocal variation (we all know, I'm a stickler for this) he can throw down raps fast and keep a beat quick as any other rapper I've ever heard while still being decipherable, which counts for mad points. After you finish reading this, hit up his myspace page (as linked above) or the bandcamp page (same) and put some Ultraklystron in your earhole!

3rd 4 T3h NRRD: June '10
Yay for Nerdcore groups who break up after a few hits and are never heard from again! /sarcasm.
Need some truly dirty, undersexed, jerk, uncaring, X-Box masses mentality, nerd rap? Well here you go, I'm attempting to earn my content warning with this group.
Futuristic Sex Robotz! A geek super group with superb production and very professional end product. I rarely had issues with the artists being flat, off key or off tempo with the beats.
Apparently formed around questionable exploits involving a case of Keystone Ice, the group produced a few singles and a full album called Hotel Coral Essex and then disappeared into obscurity and I have not seen hind nor hair of them in a long time.
A lot of their content is abrasive, foul and unsavory. In general I enjoy it, but the cussing can be excessive and the situations obscene.
If your looking to blast this in the privacy of your own home, in your earphones, in your car wiht the windows rolled up, go for it. But they're NSFW and if your trying to spread the perception of nerds that we're groovy, awesome, non-overly violent, non-rapeing, non-murdering angst bags, then you might fail.
Otherwise, I do enjoy this music and can relate to it as an artistic outlet. It is very "born of" the gamer/deep internet culture.
For the parting salvo I will leave you with the first song I heard from them.

Zealous1Like most of the rest of the intarwebs I was introduced to this So-Cal rap-wright through hearing "Level Up." I wont lie, I wasn't overly impressed but the beat was steady and the content spoke to me.
After hearing him on a couple collab's since, I decided to track down his tracks and give his library a good hard listen.

A proud member of Scrub Club Records, a member of Boss Fights and a driving force of the unofficial So-Cal Nerdcore crop, this dude is really chill.
His music is true, keeps it real, his flow is slick no matter what the tempo, his beats are varied
and feel well thought out. Although many of the Scrub Club artists espouse a free music, free life, make music for life is freedom, mentality, I think Zealous is among the few who could and should get paid for their art.
Seek him out in any number of his net haunts and get down.

MC HAWKING!!
Although his secret identity has been revealed, this fictional MoFo is still a great Nerdcore luminary and character for the ages. One of the Origional MC's on Front's "Nerdcore Rising," MC Hawking has been a little quite as of late but is putting out a little bit here, and hopefully soon a little bit there.
I know, I know, here we go again with the Front collab's but damn if Front doesn't do collab's with all the cool cats, and Front aside, I really do love Hawking in these songs. He IS the main character in Bitch Slap, so it's technically Front guest starring on a Hawking track.

This monotone, digitized, D.O.G. has some slick beats, and rhymes to bend times on top of content that topically exceeds all nerdy expectations! The beats truly do rock. In every song I have reason to tap my foot and nod my head. The voice emulation program is never distracting to me, it always seems to be so well integrated into the music, and the hard core personality that the MC lays down leaves no question as to how hard Hawking is.

Blogging My Con
Quick Update, I will not have the regularly scheduled Tuesday update today because I will be posting a Blog about S.G.I.S.Con IV!! And I have not yet finished recuperating, transporting, nor detoxing from the weekend. I will also try and find some pics from T1nk and give a breakdown of events. 3rd 4 t3h nrrd, Jan. '10
Tired of goofy, white, geek rappers? How bout a J-rap nerdcore Asian girl from Washington State? This kid is cute, smart, slick and has a sweet voice.
Rai Kamishiro!
The first blip on my radar that pinged this little lady was when I snagged Rhyme Torrents 1 through 5. She is on 1 & 2 with Big Lie & Sunny Day.
I heard the kooky techno come through my speakers, and then the Japanese started and I kinda went "huh . ." but, of course, on a Nerdcore compilation album this shouldn't throw me off. It didn't stop though, and it was downright catchy. I wanted more, so I began to seek out this mysterious artist.
AN HOUR LATER!!! all I could find was an inaccurate fm.com listing and THIS lj that I wasn't entirely sure was her.
I kind of let it drift after that. I had not heard hind nor hair of her and being the ethereal vapor that is the intarwebs I could not know if there would ever be more. THAN I found this, on a whim to try once more and was disappointed by the 2 songs that had been posted, still nice, but nothing that told me "this artist is staying strong."
BUT!!! my hero The Front . . alot, came through for me!!!
I then jumped back to the webs to find more on this j-ghost of the intertubes. Lo and behold!!! I find on her LJ she's working on a full length album with Ultraklystron and a link to her DA. Girl is a cosplay fiend and she's been hard at work on Electric Sheep.
Apparently, she's up in Fanime consistently, and anyone who knows ME, (all 3 of you who read this) know I attend Fanime EVERY year. I wish I'd known this lil' future j-star was up in "my other con" she's gonna get her some stalker action this next year, need to get her Hancock next to Front's on my copy of Final Boss.
Open invite to Rai (if she's old enough, she looks kinda young) and Front, or any other Nerdcore artist I've covered, if your down in SJ for the Fanime, shoot me an electronic mail, we'll drag you down to our favorite Pub, buy you a drink. Or mebbe just some pocky.
Musically, Rai is solid. She RAPS in Japanese. If anyone DARES to say she's not technically nerdcore, you are mad. What is geekier, than a anime obsessed girl in the U.S. who raps in Japanese, cosplays constantly, has a Nerdcore producer and has done a featuring spot for the Godfather of the genre. Anyway, she has an excellent range, a sure "young" voice and she can stay consistent and confidant in live performances. As you can see.
Big kudos and shout out to Ultamaima/ultimaaa for being a video fan of Rai, catchin the indisputable truth that Rai exist and can perform. For one last whistle wetter . . her ya go.
